This deep and elegant integration means that VSNEXPLORER users can manage both archived and online media from within their standard user interface: VSNEXPLORER presents clearly the current locations of all media using an elegant traffic-light display, and supports its easy access.
Easy Archive and Restore from VSNEXPLORER
VSNEXPLORER users never need to switch to FlashNet to manage their archive, search, or restore processes. Even checking the status of a current request is managed directly within VSNEXPLORER.
Highly Flexible Storage Management from FlashNet
FlashNet’s intelligent tiered storage management solution enables you to make optimal use of every part of your archive storage infrastructure, including near-line disk storage, tape, optical disk or cloud.
FlashNet’s StorageManager enables you to specify rules and policies to transparently copy or move media between every storage tier that FlashNet manages, thus balancing cost and performance in the way that works best for you.
SGL partners with all of the major storage manufacturers, thus supporting small to huge capacity disk, optical disk and tape storage libraries. FlashNet supports LTO drives and the LTFS tape format to ensure industry-standard access to all archived content.
Partial File Restore
The VSNEXPLORER Restore tool can either restore whole media files or timecode-based partial files. Partial file restore is particularly valuable when only some small clips from a larger file are required, as this can significantly reduce the time required for the restore process. Users simply view a low-res proxy in VSNEXPLORER and mark an in and out time to partially restore their media.
What if a required file is held on an off-line tape?
If a file needs to be restored but is only stored on a tape that has been removed from the tape library to offline storage, VSNEXPLORER uses the rich FlashNet API to report back to the operator on the current location of the tape and ask for it to be brought online.
VSNEXPLORER’s Business Intelligence (BI) layer is capable of transforming metadata into information that adds value to the already stored data, presenting it in a simple way and enabling its users to take actions to further improve revenue. BI includes valuable archive analyses.
SGL FlashNet makes the back-end archive appear as a seamless extension of the VSN MAM, PAM and BPM systems.
FlashNet: Scalable and Resilient
FlashNet is built around a clustered architecture, which allows virtually infinite scalability of the archive, from the smallest organisations to the largest network operation. SGL FlashNet comprises three base modules, which can be run on a single server to provide cost-efficient archive operations in a compact installation, or can be installed or extended across multiple nodes to form a cluster that provides automatic failover and high levels of I/O (input/output).
SGL FlashNet’s architecture also provides unrivalled resilience: in the event that a node fails, its duties are automatically taken over by other cluster members, without interruption to archive operations and without requirement for manual intervention.
